Community Walk

www.communitywalk.com

*This is the free mapping site that we used to create our map of Austin Free-Net community computer labs at:

http://www.communitywalk.com/map/6494

*Let me tell you that so far, CommunityWalk.com has been the absolute best. They have customizable URLs and map markers and you can bulk upload data and then edit each data point by clicking. You can also export data. Also, they emailed me right back when I had questions. They are also free if you will tolerate ads on your map, and very affordable if you want to be ad-free--they use a subscription model, starting at $5/month for 1 map. I am a convert.

Here's the map we built, of public health enrollment sites in MA: http://www.communitywalk.com/compartners

You cannot embed the map that I can see, but that's not the most important thing to us right now.

DataPlace

www.dataplace.org

DataPlace maps ANY place in the US, allows you to see tables, charts, and now also allows you to upload data and share that data with people you want to share it with – either privately or publicly.  You can import Excel or comma separated values lists online by being a registered user (free of charge). For more on how it works, please go to http://www.dataplace.org/help/uploading.html. While they don’t allow you to edit your values on the map (you can only do it now by reloading the spreadsheet), your community can share access to the underlying file, allow the community to edit that file. See http://www.dataplace.org/help/groups_help.html for more.
